#100HappyDays Friday

As a part of the 100 Happy Days Challenge I promised to post pictures of some of the things that have made me happy over the last week. I should point out that these pictures aren’t crazy exciting by any means. They do however, capture a moment in which I felt honestly happy. So far I have enjoyed forcing myself to find the good in my day, however grumpy I may be. It’s usually something small that’s causing me to smile but I think that’s the point of this. To realize that in any given day we have so much to smile about and be thankful for.

Whats making me happy today? This cup of coffee sitting next to me paired with the knowledge that my orders from Lululemon AND Tobi are on their way to me right now! I should be frolicking around in some new outfits within the next couple of hours. Which reminds me- I’m so jealous of fashion bloggers! No one would be willing to take pictures of me and on the occasion I wear a real outfit, I think it should be documented.

I am also feeling really excited about my new blog design coming your way so soon! You can even get a sneak peak if you really really wanted to.  I hope you will travel on over there with me because I have exciting plans for the future! I also really like friends. Anyways, what makes me happy.

FIRST// I love dance competitions. I love watching everyone dance, I love watching the roller coaster of emotions that start at nervous and finish off at over -the-top excited, I love the smell of hairspray and lipstick in the morning. Most of all I love watching the way dance is evolving and changing. This past weekend I noticed that dance, competitive dance anyways, has taken one sassy turn. Given the name of my blog it’s safe to assume I am loving it.

SECOND// Alright, so I already posted this picture in my blog this week. Without the excitement of the limo outside and the impending journey into the city to see our favorite hockey teams, my cousin is one of my best friends. She makes me laugh, is brutally honest (sometimes it is brutal, too) and has one of the biggest hearts I have ever come across.

THREE// A tea party with my munchkin. Just make sure your pinky is straight up when you’re drinking water from your tear cup. As for the cookie, well that needs to be eaten slowly so you don’t get a bellyache.

FOUR// This is what I thought was the first day of spring. It wasn’t. I still pulled out my destroyed denim as well as my white Sperry’s and I was damn happy doing it. Small life fail. By the way, I LOVE boat shoes.

FIVE// The real first day of spring complete with baby tulips and everything! If that isn’t a light at the end of the polar vortex tunnel then I’m not sure what is.

What has been making you smile lately? I’m willing to bet the first day of spring did just a little bit. Hope you all have a great weekend!

Her Campus Spring Break Survival Kit.

Since becoming a member of the Her Campus Blogger Network a couple of months ago I receive an email with an incredible opportunity at least once a week. I have received the opportunity to apply for represent and try a new app, a Macy’s campaign and my personal favorite receive the Spring Break Survival Kit! If you recall my post on the first day I went to the doctor I came home to find my kit! I thought it would make all of my troubles fade away but it didn’t because I then wound up on my couch for two weeks with pneumonia.

The good news is it did lift my spirits roughy one million percent and is continuing to do so! For those of you who didn’t see the original post the box looked a little something this.

FIRST// Inside my original box of goodies I received a neuro sleep drink. Two days ago I received TWO count them one-two thirty pound boxes of Neuro sleep! That’s four cases of yummy relaxing goodness. The best way I can think to describe the drink is a liquid form of melatonin or maybe sleepy tea? As a girl that can never fall asleep and wakes up twice every night, I am a huge supporter of this and dear I say, it’s number one fan. Twice now I have had some before bed and slept an entire 6 hours THROUGH the night. Miracle my friends, miracle. It also came with one of those cool little masky-things to put over your eyes and oddly enough.. I really like it. Granted, it does’t stay on my face for the entire night but you win some you lose some. I believe I’m supposed to share some of my cases with friends. It’s fair if I share two and keep two right? Yes, it is. OH BTW.. 35 calories. BAM.

SECOND// Haircare- TRESemmé also sent me a 7 Day Keratin Smooth System and let me tell you my hair smooth smooth smooth. If you know me you know I have a thing about soft hair and if you look like you have soft hair I will more than likely play with it. Maybe ask first, but probably not. I did share my Keratin treatment with a couple lucky friends and got equally awesome reviews. Which I mean is no surprise because TRESemme is the best and never disappoints.

ZOTOS Biotera color care conditioner was a favorite of my Momma. I no longer have color treated hair so I wanted to give it to someone who would fully benefit from its goodness. Naturally I played with her hair after and it felt like baby hair (that’s a good thing in my book) and she seemed to LOVE it. As far as I can tell you should go buy some.

THIRD// CHIPOTLE. I could just stop with that but I mean I won’t. Chipotle sent me cards for a free meal from Chipotle AND free chips and guac. Wait what do you mean? How did I get so lucky? My go-to at chipotle is a burrito with chicken, rice, cheese and lettuce. Good lord my friends it is so freaking delicious. Granted you can’t eat anything after so I will have to use the chips and guac another time and just love chipotle twice. Have you ever been? Whatever the answer is just go right now. You’re welcome.

FOUR// Coupon Cards. European wax center sent me a coupon for a FREE spring break wax. Hello…eyebrows. Brows can make or break you people. Those have to be taken care of regularly. I was seriously considering waxing the bikini but I have heard horror stories about that. Pain wise, I mean, and I’m a little bit of a baby.

Yokini Swimwear sent me 20% off plus free lettering on of their yoga inspired bathing suit bottoms.

FIVE// Her Campus Swag. Her campus sent me koozie’s, sunglasses and a freaking adorable pink cup with a bow on it. If we’re being honest I was planning on purchasing a koozie and the sunglasses this summer to flaunt on the lake. I may actually buy a couple more pairs of sunglasses incase I have a little too much to drink, dive into the water and lose them. Not that I’m speaking from experience or anything…

It’s unfortunate that spring break in Boston looks a little something like that.

I’m so thankful for Her Campus as well as all the companies that contributed to sending me so many goodies!I’m hopeful there will be more opportunities such as this one in the future!

I Can’t Wait For Summer Because..

I can’t wait to sit on the lake or lounge on a boat and watch gorgeous sunsets just like this one last summer.

Everyone is so much happier in the summer. Tan people = happy people.

I can leave my house without a jacket and boots without worrying about my toes falling off.

It’s so much easier to get ready. Get out of the shower, brush my hair, throw on some mascara and I’m ready to go!

I can sit outside at night listening to crickets and gazing at the stars. It’s amazing how small your problems become when you think about how big the universe is.

Outdoor country concerts. Duh.

Sitting in a chair doing nothing but reading ALL day is not only accepted, it’s encouraged.

NO PANTS! During the summer I’m either always in dresses, shorts or bathing suits. There are never any pants in sight for this girl and that’s exactly how I like it.

Day drinking is more socially acceptable. A Mike’s Hard Lemonade and fishing at 10 am? Well, sign me up.

I’m footloose and fancy free during the summer!

You may not believe me but there is seriously nothing I don’t like about the summer. My heart and my skin are so much happier! Link up with Helene  and Taylor to share your favorite things about summer!

Weekend Shenanigans.

My weekend shenanigans are mostly about my St.Patrick’s Day shenanigans because I mean hello, freckles! Obviously a huge St.Patrick’s day fan. However Saturday and Sunday I spent most of at a dance competition watching the girls I used to dance with when I was in high school. I mean sure, they were munchkins then and now they’re beautiful ballerinas but that’s neither here nor there.

The girls were incredible and gave me chills watching them. I would give organs to be able to compete again. I know it’s typical to say a body part but those are necessary for dancing, duh. I’m thinking a kidney and maybe my spleen. Those were the best days of my life. A little back story- I started dancing when I was two and competing when I was eight. A family friends daughter, Joan, was a senior my first year on company and was so good to me. I may or may not have been the MOST nervous kid ever but she made it better by sneaking me candy backstage.

Fast forward to 2014 and Joan and I still have a relationship. I attended her wedding two summers ago, nanny her little cousins and now will be playing with HER new baby girl! As a current teacher at the studio Joan chose to tell the girls before they went on stage and tape it. As the girls lined up in their costumes like they have so many times before Joan started her video and said “Ready Girls? Smile and on the count of 3 say “Miss Joan is Pregnant!” A couple seconds of quiet confusion turned into screams and tears. I feel so lucky to have been there for that moment! Here was my failed attempt at capturing the surprised expressions.

Moving onto St.Patricks Day! I spent St.Patricks Day at the Garden watching my two favorite hockey teams go head to head. This was emotionally draining let me tell you. Who do you root for? I’m a Boston girl at heart, love everything about every Boston team but I was wearing Minnesota Wild gear supporting my cousins boyfriend.Bruin’s scored and I would have a moment of “Ugh! again?” followed by a “What are you doing? You love the Bruins too. No, you love the Bruins more!” What a struggle.

To get to the game the family and I took a limo in, had a little bit too much to drink and laughed enough to have my back a little sore the next day. All things that had me feeling like I was on cloud 9! My family really does make me feel like the luckiest girl in the world. Particularly when we are flirting with bouncers to let us in a packed bar just to use the bathroom so that we can finish our drinks in the limo before entering the game. Any comedy you’re imagining right now is probably on par with what actually happened.

After the game we ventured downstairs to see Charlie before he had to hop on a flight to New York where he would be playing the next night. That was nice but I mean, I see Charlie on Christmas and birthdays. The best part was seeing all of the Bruins stroll by in their fancy pants suits looking like a million bucks. Johnny Boychuk limped by  me on his injured knee offering a small smile and that my friends, is the beginning of our love affair.

Hello there friends! I am about 80% better which is about the best news I have had to share in what feels like forever. My immune system hasn’t crashed that bad in quite a while and I sure hope it does’t happen again any time soon. I obviously should’t count on my luck for anything in the near future. Anyone who comes down with strep, the bug AND pneumonia in one week is not a lucky person. NO scratch tickets anytime soon. Since I have made quite the little home on my couch for the last 9 days I have had quite a bit of time on my hands to surf social networks and buzzfeed. Two good things have come from this. A new challenge and well, buzzfeed is FULL of great information.

With my obsessive Instagram checking I discovered the 100 happy days challenge. A challenge encouraging all of you pretties to find something simple that makes your day and document it for 100 days. I use the word simple because the challenge aims to find the beauty and goodness in the world around us. The contest website,, spells out the rules for the challenge as well as where and why it began. My favorite rule- “#100HappyDays challenge is for you- Not for anyone else. It is not a happiness contest or a showing off competition.” I LOVE THIS. I am following a family friend on insta who will post a simple cup of coffee with a rolex or ray bans snuck in there somehow. Who are you trying to impress, bro?  Why is your cup of starbucks on a beautifully sunny day not enough. That’s a different story.

It only seems fitting that I also found a quote to kickoff my journey of 100 happy days. ” I hope there are days when you fall in love with being alive.” Everyday is a journey and a gift, embrace it. All of it.

So without further ado, my first happy day.

For those of you unfamiliar with these parts, Marylou’s is freaking delicious gourmet coffee. My personal favorite is the girl scout cookie which is a thin mint in coffee form. Yep, it is as magical and life changing as you’re imagining.

I started this challenge yesterday and I hope you will try it with me. I have chosen Fridays to upload my seven happy pictures for the week however you will also be able to find most of them on my instagram- @smurphy58! Who is with me and where can I find your happiness?

Hi blog land! You’re probably wondering where the HELL I have been considering it has been a week. Am I right? I figured. Let me give you a quick update. After posting Tuesday about dealing with my strep I got the stomach bug. I’m sure ya’ll know but if I can just reiterate it for you.. The stomach bug sucks. So much. When I stopped getting sick , nausea wise, I noticed I wasn’t getting any better. If anything I was getting significantly sicker. Back to the doctor I go.. lucky my. Pneumonia. How the hell did I get pneumonia and can anyone tell me how in one week I come down with strep, a stomach bug AND pneumonia because I just can’t figure it out. It has been the most  miserable week ever let me tell you. The worst part? I have been having a couple really good hair days and the only thing that has seen said hair is my couch. Lame. Anyway, nap time calls.
